National study
Pacific Northwest has best roadtrips in U.S.
The Pacific Northwest comes out on top of a new 1study looking at the best places to travel by car in the United States. The study was conducted by WalletHub and also notes the worst place to go -- the Deep South.

Altogether, the study combined 21 metrics to come up with its findings. The title of the study is "2014's Best and Worst States for Summer Road Trips." The West Coast in general ranks high in the findings.

Getting top honors was Oregon, which did well when statistics were compared on traffic conditions, tourist attractions, gas prices, lodging costs and other metrics. Idaho was second and the state of Washington came in as the No. 5 best state in which to take a road trip.

California came in at the No. 8 position in the study.

Mississippi was the worst state for a road trip, and such states as Oklahoma, Arkansas and Alabama were included in the bottom five.

The latest statistics from the U.S. Travel Association indicate that 79 percent of all domestic leisure trips were by car.
